History
Lenox was founded in 1856 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after the city of Lenox, Massachusetts. The first post office was established in 1857. The first school was built in 1858.
In 1859, the first newspaper, the Lenox Times, was established. The first church was built in 1860. The first bank was established in 1868.
In 1871, the first railroad was built through Lenox. This allowed the town to become a major shipping center for the surrounding area.

The racial makeup of the city was 98.45% White, 0.11% African American, 0.05% Native American, 0.05% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.60% from other races, and 0.69% from two or more races.
