Hinton Summary

Hinton is a city located in Plymouth County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sioux City, IA–NE–SD Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Hinton was founded in 1881 by the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railway. The town was named after the railroad's president, William Hinton. The first post office in Hinton was established in 1882.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Hinton is a small rural community with a population of 1,845. The economy is largely based on agriculture, with corn and soybeans being the main crops. There are also several small businesses in the area, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a bank, and a few restaurants.
