Hayesville is a small unincorporated community located in the state of Iowa, in the United States. It is situated in the northwest corner of the state, in the county of Clay. The population of Hayesville was estimated to be around 200 people in 2020.
History
Hayesville was founded in 1856 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after the first settler, John Hay, who had come to the area in search of a new home. The town was originally a farming community, and the settlers quickly established a post office and a school.
In the late 19th century, Hayesville began to grow and develop. The town was incorporated in 1891, and the first mayor was elected in 1892. The town was home to a variety of businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, a hotel, and a bank.
In the early 20th century, Hayesville experienced a period of growth and prosperity. The town was home to a variety of businesses, including a lumberyard, a creamery, a grain elevator, and a flour mill. The town also had a movie theater, a library, and a hospital.
