History
Gladbrook was founded in 1881 by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad. The town was named after the daughter of a railroad official.
Gladbrook was incorporated as a city in 1891
Economy

The racial makeup of the city was 97.9% White, 0.1% African American, 0.1% Native American, 0.1% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 0.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.7% of the population.
