Durant Summary

Durant is a city located in Cedar County, Iowa, United States. The population was 2,845 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Cedar County.

History

Durant was founded in 1856 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after William Durant, a prominent local landowner. The first post office was established in 1857.
In 1858, the first school was built in Durant. The first church was built in 1859. The first newspaper, the Durant Gazette, was established in 1867.
