History
Clive was founded in 1882 by a group of settlers from Clive, England. The settlers named the town after their hometown in England. The town was incorporated in 1956.
Geography
Clive is located at 41°35'17" North, 93°45'17" West (41.5879, -93.7547). It is situated in the Des Moines metropolitan area, and is located approximately 8 miles west of downtown Des Moines.
The city has a total area of 8.3 square miles, of which 8.2 square miles is land and 0.1 square miles is water.
Economy
Clive is home to a variety of businesses, including retail stores, restaurants, and professional services. The city is also home to several corporate headquarters, including the headquarters of Kum & Go, a convenience store chain.
The city's largest employer is the West Des Moines Community School District, which employs over 1,000 people. Other major employers include Wells Fargo, Hy-Vee, and the City of Clive.

As of the 2010 census, there were 15,447 people, 6,541 households, and 4,092 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,890.3 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the city was 87.2% White, 4.3% African American, 0.3% Native American, 5.2% Asian, 0.7% from other races, and 2.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.2% of the population.
There were 6,541 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.3% were non-families. 27.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.88.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 24.7% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 28.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.2% who were 65 years of age or older.
