Clearfield Summary

History

The city of Clearfield, Iowa is located in Appanoose County in the south-central part of the state. It is situated on the banks of the South Skunk River, and is the county seat of Appanoose County. The city was founded in 1851 by a group of settlers from Ohio, led by William and Mary Ann Clearfield. The Clearfields were the first settlers in the area, and the city was named in their honor.
The city of Clearfield was officially incorporated in 1856, and the first mayor was William Clearfield. The city quickly grew and prospered, and by the late 19th century, it had become a major agricultural center. The city was also home to several manufacturing businesses, including a flour mill, a brickyard, and a furniture factory.
In the early 20th century, Clearfield experienced a period of growth and prosperity. The city was home to several banks, a movie theater, and a variety of stores and businesses. The city also had a thriving agricultural industry, with several large farms located in the area.
