Aplington Summary

Aplington is a small city located in Butler County, Iowa, United States. It is situated along the Cedar River, approximately 20 miles northeast of Waterloo. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census.

History

Aplington was founded in 1856 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The town was named after the first settler, John Apling. The first post office was established in 1857.
In 1868, the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad was built through the town, which helped to spur growth. The town was incorporated in 1876.

Geography

Aplington's economy is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several grain elevators, as well as a feed mill and a fertilizer plant. The town also has a small manufacturing sector, with several small businesses located in the area.
