History
Allerton was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after the Allerton family, who were among the first settlers. The town was incorporated in 1881.
Allerton was a major stop on the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad, which ran through the town from 1881 to 1971. The railroad was a major factor in the town's growth and development.
