History

Lengby was founded in 1883 by Norwegian immigrants who had settled in the area. The town was named after the nearby Lengby Lake, which was named after the Norwegian word for “long”. The first settlers in the area were mostly farmers, and the town quickly grew to include a post office, a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a school.
In the early 1900s, the town was home to a number of businesses, including a creamery, a lumberyard, a hotel, and a bank. The town also had a number of churches, including a Lutheran church, a Methodist church, and a Catholic church.
