Hallock Summary

History
Hallock was founded in 1879 by the Northern Pacific Railroad. The city was named after the Hallock family, who were early settlers in the area. The first post office was established in 1879. The city was incorporated in 1881.
Geography
Hallock is located at the intersection of U.S. Route 75 and Minnesota State Highway 11. It is situated on the banks of the Red River of the North. The city has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of it land.
Economy
Hallock is the economic center of Kittson County. The city is home to several businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a bank, a pharmacy, and a variety of restaurants. The city also has a hospital, a nursing home, and a library.
The city is also home to the Kittson County Fair, which is held annually in August. The fair features a variety of events, including a rodeo, a demolition derby, and a carnival.

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,303 people, 545 households, and 339 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,077.5 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the city was 97.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 545 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.3% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.2% were non-families. 33.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 17.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.30 and the average family size was 2.93.
The median age in the city was 43.2 years. 24.2% of residents were under the age of 18; 6.2% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 21.3% were from 25 to 44; 27.2% were from 45 to 64; and 21.1% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 48.2% male and 51.8% female.
The median income for a household in the city was $35,000, and the median income for a family was $41,250. Males had a median income of $30,000 versus $20,000 for females.
