St Martin Summary

Martin, Minnesota is a small city located in the southwestern corner of the state, in Martin County. It is situated on the banks of the Cottonwood River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The city has a population of approximately 1,500 people, and is the county seat of Martin County.

History

The area that is now Martin, Minnesota was first settled in the late 1800s by a group of Swedish immigrants. The town was originally called “Swedish Settlement”, and was later renamed “Martin” after the first postmaster, Martin Johnson. The town was officially incorporated in 1887.
In the early 1900s, Martin was a thriving agricultural community, with many of the residents working in the local farms and mills. The town was also home to a number of small businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a hotel.
In the 1950s, the town began to experience a decline in population as many of the residents moved away in search of better job opportunities. However, in the late 1970s, the town began to experience a resurgence in population as people began to move back to the area.

Geography

Martin is located in the southwestern corner of Minnesota, in Martin County. It is situated on the banks of the Cottonwood River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The city has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land.
The climate in Martin is classified as humid continental, with hot summers and cold winters. The average temperature in the summer is around 75 degrees Fahrenheit, and the average temperature in the winter is around 20 degrees Fahrenheit.

Economy

The economy of Martin is largely based on agriculture and tourism. The town is home to several farms, which produce a variety of crops, including corn, soybeans, and wheat. The town is also home to a number of small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and a hotel.
