Prinsburg Summary

Prinsburg, Minnesota is a small city located in Kandiyohi County, in the west-central part of the state. It is situated on the banks of the Chippewa River, about 25 miles west of Willmar. The city has a population of about 1,000 people, and is part of the Willmar Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Prinsburg was founded in 1871 by Dutch immigrants, who named the city after their hometown of Prinsburg, Netherlands. The city was incorporated in 1887, and the first mayor was John Prins. The city grew rapidly in the late 19th century, and by 1900, it had a population of over 1,000 people.
In the early 20th century, Prinsburg was a thriving agricultural community, with many farms and businesses. The city was also home to a number of churches, including the Dutch Reformed Church, which was founded in 1872.
In the 1950s, Prinsburg began to decline, as many of its residents moved away to larger cities. The city's population dropped to just over 500 by the 1970s. However, in recent years, the city has seen a resurgence, as new businesses and residents have moved to the area.

Prinsburg is located in west-central Minnesota, about 25 miles west of Willmar. The city is situated on the banks of the Chippewa River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The city has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land.
