History

Plymouth was first settled in 1855 by a group of settlers from New England. The city was named after Plymouth, Massachusetts, the original settlement of the Pilgrims in 1620. The city was incorporated in 1955 and has since grown to become one of the largest cities in the state.

Geography

Plymouth is located in the northwest corner of the Twin Cities metropolitan area, approximately 12 miles west of Minneapolis. The city is bordered by the cities of Maple Grove to the north, Medicine Lake to the east, Wayzata to the south, and Golden Valley to the west. The city is situated on the banks of the Mississippi River and is home to several lakes, including Medicine Lake, Lake Minnetonka, and Lake Calhoun.
The city has a total area of 33.2 square miles, of which 32.7 square miles is land and 0.5 square miles is water. The terrain is mostly flat, with some rolling hills in the northern and western parts of the city.

Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.3% of the population.
