History

New London was founded in 1856 by a group of settlers from New England. The city was named after the city of London, England, and was originally intended to be a utopian community. The settlers built a sawmill and a gristmill, and the city quickly grew. By the late 19th century, New London had become a thriving agricultural center, with a population of over 1,000.
In the early 20th century, New London experienced a period of growth and prosperity. The city was home to several businesses, including a creamery, a flour mill, a furniture factory, and a brickyard. The city also had a thriving agricultural industry, with several farms in the area.

Geography
