New Auburn Summary

Auburn, Minnesota is a small city located in Sibley County, Minnesota. It is situated on the banks of the Minnesota River, about 25 miles southwest of Mankato. The city was founded in 1856 and was named after Auburn, New York. The population of Auburn was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Auburn is located at 44°25'45" North, 94°17'45" West (44.4292, -94.2958). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

History

Auburn was founded in 1856 by a group of settlers from Auburn, New York. The city was originally known as Auburnville, but the name was changed to Auburn in 1858. The city was incorporated in 1872.
The city was a major stop on the Minnesota River Valley Railroad, which ran from Mankato to St. Paul. The railroad was a major factor in the growth of the city, as it allowed for the transportation of goods and people.
The city was also home to a number of businesses, including a flour mill, a creamery, a lumber mill, a brickyard, and a furniture factory.

Auburn’s economy is largely based on agriculture. The city is home to a number of farms, which produce a variety of crops, including corn, soybeans, and wheat. The city is also home to a number of businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a restaurant, and a bank.
