Meire Grove Summary

Meire Grove is a small city located in Stearns County, Minnesota, United States. It is situated along the Sauk River, approximately 10 miles south of St. Cloud. The city was founded in 1856 and incorporated in 1887. As of the 2010 census, the population of Meire Grove was 517.

Geography

Meire Grove is located at 45°25'25" North, 94°45'45" West (45.423, -94.7625). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all of it land.
The Sauk River runs through the city, and is a popular spot for fishing and canoeing. The city is also home to a number of parks, including Meire Grove Park, which features a playground, picnic area, and basketball court.

History

Meire Grove was founded in 1856 by German immigrants who had settled in the area. The city was named after a local family, the Meires, who had a large farm in the area. The city was incorporated in 1887.
In the early 1900s, Meire Grove was a thriving agricultural community, with many farms and businesses. The city was also home to a number of churches, including the St. John's Lutheran Church, which was founded in 1887.
In the 1950s, the city began to experience a decline in population as many of its residents moved away in search of better job opportunities. However, in recent years, the city has seen a resurgence in population as people have moved back to the area in search of a more rural lifestyle.
