Kasota Summary

Kasota is a small city located in Le Sueur County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Mankato–North Mankato Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Kasota was founded in 1856 by a group of settlers from Kasota, Minnesota. The town was named after the nearby Kasota Prairie, which was named after the Dakota word for "clear water". The town was originally a farming community, but in the late 19th century, it became a center for the lumber industry. The town was incorporated in 1887.
