Hampton Summary

Hampton, Minnesota is a small city located in the southeastern corner of the state, in the heart of the Minnesota River Valley. It is situated on the banks of the Minnesota River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The city has a population of just over 1,000 people, and is part of the larger Mankato-North Mankato Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Hampton was first settled in 1856 by a group of German immigrants. The town was originally named “New Germany”, but was later changed to Hampton in honor of the town’s first postmaster, William Hampton. The town was officially incorporated in 1872.
