Ghent Summary

Ghent is a small city located in Sibley County, Minnesota, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Minnesota River, about 40 miles southwest of Minneapolis. The city has a population of approximately 1,000 people and is part of the Mankato-North Mankato Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Ghent was founded in 1856 by a group of German immigrants who had settled in the area. The city was named after the city of Ghent in Belgium. The first settlers were mostly farmers, and the city quickly grew to become a thriving agricultural community. In 1872, the first railroad line was built through Ghent, connecting it to the larger cities of Mankato and Minneapolis. This allowed for the growth of the city and the development of a variety of businesses.
In the early 1900s, Ghent was a bustling town with a variety of businesses, including a flour mill, a creamery, a lumber yard, a blacksmith shop, and a variety of other stores. The city also had a number of churches, schools, and a library.

Geography

Ghent is located in Sibley County, Minnesota, on the banks of the Minnesota River. The city is situated at an elevation of 945 feet above sea level. The city covers an area of 1.2 square miles and has a population of approximately 1,000 people.
