Flensburg Summary

Flensburg, Minnesota is a small city located in Stearns County, Minnesota, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Mississippi River, about 25 miles northwest of St. Cloud. The city has a population of approximately 2,500 people and is part of the St. Cloud Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Flensburg was founded in 1856 by German immigrants who had come to the area to farm. The city was named after the city of Flensburg, Germany, which is located in the northern part of the country. The first settlers in the area were mostly German Lutherans, and the city was originally known as “Flensburg Lutheran Settlement.”
The city was incorporated in 1872 and was the first city in Stearns County to be incorporated. The city was originally a farming community, but in the late 19th century, it began to develop into a small industrial center. The city was home to several factories, including a flour mill, a sawmill, a brickyard, and a brewery.
