Bricelyn Summary

Bricelyn, Minnesota is a small city located in Faribault County, in the southeastern part of the state. It is situated on the banks of the Straight River, about 20 miles south of the city of Faribault. The city has a population of about 500 people, and is part of the larger Faribault-Northfield metropolitan area.

History

The area that is now Bricelyn was first settled in the late 1800s by a group of Norwegian immigrants. The town was originally known as “Bricelyn Station”, and was named after the first settler, John Brice. The town was officially incorporated in 1891, and the first post office was established in 1892.
In the early 1900s, the town was a thriving agricultural community, with many of the residents working in the local farms and dairies. The town also had a number of small businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a hotel.
In the 1950s, the town began to decline as many of the residents moved away in search of better economic opportunities. The population of the town dropped to just over 200 people by the 1970s.
