Altura Summary

History

The city of Altura, Minnesota is located in the southeastern corner of Winona County, and is part of the Rochester, MN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city was founded in 1856 by a group of settlers from New York, and was originally named “New York Mills”. The name was changed to Altura in 1858, after the Latin word for “height”.
