Terrell Hills Summary
Terrell Hills is a city located in Bexar County, Texas, United States. It is a suburb of San Antonio and is part of the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 4,879 at the 2010 census.
History
The area that is now Terrell Hills was originally part of a Spanish land grant given to Don José Antonio Navarro in 1831. The land was later acquired by the Terrell family, who established a ranch in the area. The city was founded in 1947 by a group of investors led by J.E. Terrell, who purchased the land from the Terrell family. The city was named after the family and incorporated in 1949.
Geography
Terrell Hills is located at 29°29′17″N 98°27′45″W (29.487950, -98.462490). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.
Economy
The economy of Terrell Hills is largely based on the service industry. The city is home to a number of restaurants, retail stores, and professional services. The city also has a number of small businesses, including a number of home-based businesses.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 4,879 people, 1,945 households, and 1,521 families residing in the city. The population density was 4,068.2 people per square mile (1,569.2/km2). There were 2,039 housing units at an average density of 1,711.2 per square mile (661.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 92.45% White, 0.90% African American, 0.25% Native American, 4.45% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.90% from other races, and 1.03% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.45% of the population.
There were 1,945 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.2% were married couples living together, 5.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.7% were non-families. 21.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 2.93.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 3.7% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 28.2% from 45 to 64, and 19.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females, there were 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $90,917, and the median income for a family was $103,917. Males had a median income of $75,000 versus $41,250 for females.
