Shenandoah Summary
Shenandoah is a city located in Montgomery County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area.
History
Shenandoah was founded in 1881 by German immigrants who named the town after the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. The town was originally called “Shenandoah Valley” but was later shortened to “Shenandoah”. The town was incorporated in 1967.

Shenandoah is home to a variety of businesses, including retail stores, restaurants, and professional services. The city is also home to several industrial parks, including the Shenandoah Industrial Park, which is home to a variety of manufacturing and distribution companies.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,895 people, 690 households, and 517 families residing in the city. The population density was 860.2 people per square mile (332.2/km2). There were 745 housing units at an average density of 339.2 per square mile (131.1/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 81.90% White, 4.45% African American, 0.37% Native American, 5.45% Asian, 5.45% from other races, and 2.88% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 14.45% of the population.
There were 690 households, out of which 37.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.4% were married couples living together, 10.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.1% were non-families. 21.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 6.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.73 and the average family size was 3.20.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 28.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 33.2% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 9.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $50,938, and the median income for a family was $56,250. Males had a median income of $40,000 versus $30,000 for females. The per capita income for the city was $22,945. About 4.2% of families and 5.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.2% of those under age 18 and 4.2% of those age 65 or over.
