Oak Ridge North Summary

Oak Ridge North is a city located in Montgomery County, Texas, United States. It is part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

Oak Ridge North was founded in the late 1960s by developer and former mayor, William A. “Bill” Moffitt. The city was incorporated in 1969 and was named after the nearby Oak Ridge Elementary School. The city was originally planned as a residential community and was designed to be a “bedroom community” for Houston.

Geography

Oak Ridge North is located at 30°14'25" North, 95°30'17" West (30.240278, -95.504722). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.3 square miles (3.4 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Oak Ridge North is home to a variety of businesses, including retail stores, restaurants, and professional services. The city is also home to several corporate headquarters, including the headquarters of the Houston-based oil and gas company, Apache Corporation.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 517 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,420.8 people per square mile (548.7/km2). There were 809 housing units at an average density of 617.7 per square mile (238.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 81.2% White, 8.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 5.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 3.2% from other races, and 2.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.2% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.2% were married couples living together, 9.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.7% were non-families. 25.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 2.99.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 28.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $68,750, and the median income for a family was $77,917. Males had a median income of $50,000 versus $37,500 for females. The per capita income for the city was $31,945. About 4.2% of families and 5.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.2% of those under age 18 and 4.2% of those age 65 or over.
