Leon Valley Summary
Leon Valley is a city located in Bexar County, Texas, United States. It is a suburb of San Antonio and is part of the San Antonio–New Braunfels Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 10,151 at the 2010 census.
History
The area that is now Leon Valley was originally inhabited by the Coahuiltecan Indians. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the late 1700s. The area was part of the Spanish land grant known as Rancho de las Cabras. In 1852, the area was purchased by William A. A. (Bigfoot) Wallace, who established a ranch and named it Leon Valley.
In the early 1900s, the area began to develop as a farming community. In 1952, the city of Leon Valley was incorporated. The city was named after the Leon River, which runs through the area.
Geography
Leon Valley is located at 29°31'25" North, 98°32'17" West (29.523607, -98.538090). It is situated in the western part of Bexar County, approximately 15 miles northwest of downtown San Antonio.
The city has a total area of 4.3 square miles, all of which is land. The Leon River runs through the city.
Economy
The economy of Leon Valley is largely based on retail and services. The city is home to several large retail stores, including Walmart, Target, and Home Depot. There are also several restaurants, banks, and other businesses located in the city.
