Plain View Summary

Plain View is a small unincorporated community located in the western part of North Carolina, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is situated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, in the Yadkin Valley region of the state. The community is located in Wilkes County, and is part of the North Wilkesboro Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

The area that is now Plain View was first settled in the late 1700s by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The settlers were attracted to the area due to its fertile soil and abundant natural resources. The community was originally known as “Plain View” due to its wide open views of the surrounding mountains.
The first post office in the area was established in 1845, and the community was officially incorporated in 1887. The town was named after the nearby Plain View Church, which was established in 1845.

Geography

Plain View is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, in the Yadkin Valley region of North Carolina. The community is situated in Wilkes County, and is part of the North Wilkesboro Micropolitan Statistical Area.
The town is located at an elevation of 1,400 feet (427 m) above sea level. The town is located approximately 25 miles (40 km) northwest of Winston-Salem, and approximately 50 miles (80 km) northeast of Asheville.

Economy

The economy of Plain View is largely based on agriculture and tourism. The town is home to several small farms, which produce a variety of crops, including corn, soybeans, wheat, and hay. The town is also home to several small businesses, including a general store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.
The town is also a popular tourist destination, due to its proximity to the Blue Ridge Mountains. The town is home to several popular attractions, including the Yadkin Valley Wine Trail, the Yadkin Valley Scenic Byway, and the Yadkin Valley Railroad.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, the population of Plain View was 1,092. The racial makeup of the town was 97.2% White, 0.9% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.3% from other races, and 0.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
The median household income in Plain View was $35,938, and the median family income was $41,250. The per capita income for the town was $17,845. About 11.2% of families and 14.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 18.2% of those under age 18 and 8.3% of those age 65 or over.
