Momeyer Summary

Momeyer is a small unincorporated community located in Nash County, North Carolina. It is situated in the northeastern part of the state, approximately 20 miles east of Rocky Mount and 40 miles northeast of Raleigh. The community is located along the banks of the Tar River and is home to a population of approximately 500 people.

History

Momeyer was first settled in the early 1800s by a group of settlers from Virginia. The community was named after a local family, the Momeyers, who were among the first settlers. The Momeyers were farmers and the area was known for its fertile soil and abundant wildlife. The community grew slowly over the years and by the early 1900s, it had become a thriving agricultural center.
In the early 1900s, the community was home to several businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, a grist mill, and a sawmill. The community also had a post office, which was established in 1891.
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Momeyer was a popular destination for hunters and fishermen. The area was known for its abundance of wild game, including deer, turkey, and quail. The Tar River was also a popular spot for fishing, and the community was home to several fish camps.

Geography

Momeyer is located in the northeastern part of Nash County, North Carolina. It is situated along the banks of the Tar River, approximately 20 miles east of Rocky Mount and 40 miles northeast of Raleigh. The community is located in a rural area and is surrounded by farmland and woodlands.
