Macclesfield Summary

Macclesfield is a small town located in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. It is situated on the banks of the Tar River, approximately 20 miles east of Rocky Mount. The town was founded in 1790 and incorporated in 1891. As of the 2010 census, the population of Macclesfield was 1,717.

History

The town of Macclesfield was founded in 1790 by a group of settlers from Scotland. The town was named after Macclesfield, England, which was the hometown of the settlers. The settlers were attracted to the area due to its fertile soil and abundant timber. The town quickly grew and by the mid-1800s, it was a thriving agricultural center.
In 1891, Macclesfield was officially incorporated as a town. During this time, the town was home to several businesses, including a cotton mill, a sawmill, a gristmill, and a brickyard. The town also had a post office, a bank, and several churches.

Geography

Macclesfield is located in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. It is situated on the banks of the Tar River, approximately 20 miles east of Rocky Mount. The town is located at an elevation of approximately 100 feet above sea level.
