Graham County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2010 census, the population was 8,861. Its county seat is Robbinsville. The county was formed in 1872 from the western part of Cherokee County. It was named for William A. Graham, United States Senator from North Carolina.
Geography
Graham County is located in the southwestern corner of North Carolina, and is bordered by Tennessee to the west, Cherokee County to the east, and Macon County to the south. The county is located in the Great Smoky Mountains, and is home to the Nantahala National Forest. The county is home to the highest peak in the Eastern United States, Clingmans Dome, which rises to an elevation of 6,643 feet.
The county has a total area of 437 square miles, of which 435 square miles is land and 2.2 square miles (0.5%) is water.

The racial makeup of the county was 97.17% White, 0.45% Black or African American, 0.45% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.90% from other races, and 0.84% from two or more races. 1.90% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
