Trenton Summary

Trenton is a small town located in the Uintah Basin of northeastern Utah. It is situated in the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation, and is the county seat of Uintah County. The town has a population of approximately 1,000 people, and is located about 30 miles east of Vernal, the largest city in the area.

History

Trenton was first settled in 1876 by a group of Mormon pioneers led by John W. Van Cott. The town was named after the city of Trenton, New Jersey, and was originally intended to be a farming community. The town was incorporated in 1883, and the first post office was established in 1884.
In the early 1900s, Trenton began to experience a period of growth and prosperity. The town was home to several businesses, including a hotel, a bank, a general store, and a blacksmith shop. The town also had a school, a church, and a newspaper.
In the 1920s, the town experienced a period of decline as the local economy shifted away from agriculture and towards oil and gas production. The Great Depression of the 1930s further exacerbated the town’s economic woes, and by the 1940s, Trenton had become a virtual ghost town.
In the 1950s, the town began to experience a resurgence as the local economy shifted back towards agriculture. The town was also home to several new businesses, including a gas station, a grocery store, and a hardware store.
