Tremonton Summary

Tremonton is a city located in the northern part of Box Elder County, Utah, United States. It is part of the Ogden-Clearfield, Utah Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 7,647 at the 2010 census.

History

Tremonton was first settled in 1877 by a group of Mormon pioneers led by William H. Adams. The city was named after the nearby Tremont Mountain, which was named by the early settlers after the three peaks of Mount Tremont in Maine. The city was incorporated in 1918.

Geography

Tremonton is located at 41°45'7" North, 112°11'17" West (41.7519, -112.1881). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.3 square miles (11.2 km2), all land.

Economy

Tremonton is home to several businesses, including a large sugar beet processing plant, a cheese factory, and a number of agricultural businesses. The city is also home to a number of manufacturing companies, including a plastics manufacturer and a metal fabrication plant.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 6,844 people, 2,093 households, and 1,717 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,611.2 people per square mile (619.7/km2). There were 2,213 housing units at an average density of 517.7 per square mile (199.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 93.45% White, 0.17% African American, 0.45% Native American, 0.45% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 4.17% from other races, and 1.33% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.17% of the population.
There were 2,093 households, out of which 47.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.2% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.3% were non-families. 16.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 7.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.25 and the average family size was 3.67.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 36.2% under the age of 18, 10.2% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 17.7% from 45 to 64, and 10.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 28 years. For every 100 females, there were 98.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $41,944, and the median income for a family was $45,938. Males had a median income of $35,938 versus $21,917 for females. The per capita income for the city was $14,945. About 5.2% of families and 6.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 7.2% of those under age 18 and 6.2% of those age 65 or over.
