Hooper Summary

Hooper is a small city located in Weber County, Utah, United States. It is part of the Ogden-Clearfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 6,945 at the 2010 census, up from 4,719 at the 2000 census.

History

Hooper was first settled in 1854 by a group of Mormon pioneers led by William Hooper. The town was originally known as Hooper's Settlement, but was later shortened to Hooper. The town was incorporated in 1891.

Geography

Hooper is located in northern Weber County at 41°14′17″N 112°1′17″W (41.238, -112.021). It is bordered to the north by the city of West Haven and to the south by the city of Roy. Interstate 15 passes through the western side of the city, with access from Exit 348.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.2 square miles (21.2 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Hooper is home to several businesses, including a Walmart Supercenter, a Home Depot, and a Lowe's Home Improvement store. The city is also home to several manufacturing companies, including a plastics manufacturer and a metal fabrication company.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 4,719 people, 1,541 households, and 1,269 families residing in the city. The population density was 576.3 people per square mile (222.7/km2). There were 1,619 housing units at an average density of 197.7 per square mile (76.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 94.2% White, 0.3% African American, 0.4% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 2.7% from other races, and 1.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.2% of the population.
There were 1,541 households, out of which 48.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.2% were married couples living together, 9.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 18.3% were non-families. 14.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 4.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.06 and the average family size was 3.41.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 34.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 32.2% from 25 to 44, 19.2% from 45 to 64, and 6.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 30 years. For every 100 females, there were 98.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.2 males.
