Farr West Summary
Farr West is a city located in Weber County, Utah, United States. It is part of the Ogden-Clearfield, Utah Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 8,527 at the 2010 census, up from 6,794 at the 2000 census.
History
Farr West was first settled in 1851 by the Farr family, who were among the first settlers in Weber County. The Farrs were among the first to build a fort in the area, which was used to protect the settlers from Native American attacks. The fort was later abandoned, but the Farrs remained in the area and established a small farming community.
In 1868, the community was officially incorporated as Farr West City. The city was named after the Farr family, who were among the first settlers in the area.
Geography
Farr West is located in northern Weber County at 41°14′17″N 111°59′45″W (41.238, -111.996). It is bordered to the north by Plain City, to the east by Marriott-Slaterville, to the south by West Haven, and to the west by Harrisville.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.2 square miles (10.9 km2), all of it land.
Economy
Farr West is home to several businesses, including a number of small manufacturing companies. The city is also home to a number of retail stores, restaurants, and other businesses.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 6,794 people, 2,093 households, and 1,717 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,619.3 people per square mile (625.2/km2). There were 2,179 housing units at an average density of 522.2 per square mile (201.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 94.2% White, 0.3% African American, 0.4% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 2.3% from other races, and 2.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.7% of the population.
There were 2,093 households, out of which 47.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.2% were married couples living together, 9.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.2% were non-families. 15.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 5.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.22 and the average family size was 3.60.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 35.2% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 19.7% from 45 to 64, and 7.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 30 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $50,945, and the median income for a family was $54,917. Males had a median income of $41,919 versus $25,917 for females. The per capita income for the city was $18,945. About 4.2% of families and 5.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.2% of those under age 18 and 4.2% of those age 65 or over.
