Zavalla Summary

Zavalla is a small town located in the eastern part of Texas, in the United States. It is situated in the Angelina County, and is part of the Lufkin-Nacogdoches Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town has a population of 1,072 people, according to the 2010 census.

History

The town of Zavalla was founded in 1881 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Nacogdoches. The settlers named the town after a nearby creek, which was named after a Spanish explorer, Don Jose de Zavala. The town was originally a farming community, and the settlers grew cotton, corn, and other crops.
In the early 1900s, the town began to grow and develop. The first school was built in 1910, and the first post office was established in 1911. The town also had a bank, a hotel, and a general store.
In the 1920s, the town began to experience a decline in population due to the Great Depression. However, the town was able to survive and eventually began to grow again in the 1940s.
