Weimar Summary

Weimar, Texas is a small town located in Colorado County, Texas, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Colorado River, about halfway between Houston and San Antonio. The population of Weimar was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

Weimar was founded in 1873 by German immigrants who had come to Texas in search of a better life. The town was named after the city of Weimar in Germany. The first settlers were mostly farmers and ranchers, and the town quickly grew to become a thriving agricultural center.
The town was incorporated in 1882, and the first mayor was John H. Weimar. The town was a major stop on the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway, which connected San Antonio to the Gulf of Mexico. The railway brought new businesses and people to the area, and the town continued to grow.
In the early 1900s, Weimar was a major cotton-producing center. The town had several cotton gins, and the cotton was shipped to Houston and other cities. The town also had several stores, a bank, a hotel, and a post office.

Geography

Weimar is located in Colorado County, Texas, at the intersection of State Highway 90 and Farm to Market Road 609.
