Geography
Tom Bean is located at 33°41'25" North, 96°25'45" West (33.690278, -96.429167). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.
History
Tom Bean was founded in 1881 by Thomas Bean, a prominent rancher and businessman. The town was originally called Beanville, but the name was changed to Tom Bean in 1883. The town was incorporated in 1885.
Tom Bean was a thriving agricultural community in the early 1900s. Cotton was the main crop, and the town had several cotton gins and a cottonseed oil mill. The town also had a bank, a hotel, a blacksmith shop, a livery stable, and a general store.
In the 1920s, the town began to decline as the cotton industry declined. The Great Depression further weakened the town's economy. In the 1940s, the town began to revive as the oil industry began to boom in the area.

Demographics
As of the 2010 census, there were 1,541 people, 590 households, and 431 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,279.2 people per square mile (493.2/km2). There were 645 housing units at an average density of 537.5 per square mile (207.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 92.2% White, 0.3% African American, 0.7% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 4.7% from other races, and 1.8% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 10.2% of the population.
There were 590 households, out of which 33.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.6% were married couples living together, 11.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.6% were non-families. 24.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.12.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 28.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
