Tolar Summary

Tolar is a small town located in Hood County, Texas, United States. It is situated about 25 miles southwest of Granbury and about 40 miles southwest of Fort Worth. The population of Tolar was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

History

Tolar was founded in 1881 by the Tolar family, who had moved to the area from Tennessee. The town was named after the family, and the first post office was established in 1882. The town was incorporated in 1891.
Tolar was a farming community for many years, and the town was home to several cotton gins and a cottonseed oil mill. The town also had a school, churches, and a few stores.
In the early 1900s, the town began to decline as the population moved away to larger cities. The population of Tolar dropped to just over 500 by the 1950s.

Geography

Tolar is located at 32°45'25" North, 97°51'45" West (32.756944, -97.862500). The town is situated on the Brazos River, about 25 miles southwest of Granbury and about 40 miles southwest of Fort Worth.
