South Mountain Summary

South Mountain is a small unincorporated community located in the state of Texas, in the United States. It is situated in the western part of the state, in the county of El Paso. The community is located in the foothills of the Franklin Mountains, and is surrounded by the city of El Paso.

History

South Mountain has a long and rich history, dating back to the early 1800s. The area was first settled by the Spanish, who established a mission in the area in 1810. The mission was abandoned in 1821, when Mexico gained independence from Spain. The area was then settled by American settlers in the late 1800s, who established a small farming community.
The community was officially established in 1891, when the first post office was opened. The community was named after the nearby mountain range, which was named after the nearby Franklin Mountains.
