Rising Star Summary
Rising Star is a small town located in Eastland County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,126 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Abilene, Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area.
History
Rising Star was founded in 1881 by the Texas and Pacific Railway. The town was named after a nearby ranch owned by the railroad. The first post office was established in 1882. The town was incorporated in 1891.
In the early 1900s, the town was a center for cotton production and had a population of around 1,000. The town was also home to a number of businesses, including a bank, a hotel, a newspaper, and a cotton gin.
In the 1920s, the town began to decline as the cotton industry moved away. The population dropped to around 500 by the 1940s.
In the 1950s, the town began to experience a resurgence as the oil industry moved into the area. The population increased to around 1,000 by the 1970s.
