History

Paloma Creek South was first settled in the late 1800s by a group of German immigrants. The area was originally known as “Paloma”, which is Spanish for “dove”. The name was changed to Paloma Creek South in the early 1900s when the area was annexed by Denton County.
The area was largely rural until the late 1970s, when the population began to grow rapidly due to the influx of people from the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The population continued to grow throughout the 1980s and 1990s, and by 2000, the population had reached 8,845.

Economy

Paloma Creek South is primarily a residential community, with most of its residents commuting to nearby cities for work. The area is home to several small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and professional services.
The largest employer in the area is the Denton County Independent School District, which employs over 1,000 people. Other major employers include the University of North Texas, Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, and the City of Denton.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 8,845 people, 2,945 households, and 2,521 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 2,062.2 people per square mile (797.2/km2). There were 3,093 housing units at an average density of 717.7/sq mi (277.3/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 79.2% White, 8.2% African American, 0.4% Native American, 4.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 5.2% from other races, and 2.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 14.3% of the population.
There were 2,945 households, out of which 44.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.2% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.3% were non-families. 15.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 3.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.99 and the average family size was 3.35.
In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 32.2% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 33.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 5.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $68,958, and the median income for a family was $72,813. Males had a median income of $50,000 versus $36,250 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $25,945. About 4.2% of families and 5.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.2% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.
