O'Brien is located in the southeastern part of Gaines County, Texas. It is situated at an elevation of 2,845 feet above sea level. The terrain of the area is mostly flat, with some rolling hills. History
O'Brien was founded in the late 19th century by Irish immigrants. The town was named after one of the original settlers, John O'Brien. The town was originally a farming community, and the main crops grown were cotton and corn. In the early 20th century, the town began to grow and develop, and by the 1950s, it had become a thriving community.
