Nolanville Summary
Nolanville is a city located in Bell County, Texas, United States. It is part of the Killeen–Temple–Fort Hood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 4,092 at the 2010 census.
History
Nolanville was founded in 1876 by John Nolan, a former Confederate soldier. The town was originally called Nolan's Valley, but the name was changed to Nolanville in 1882. The town was incorporated in 1953.
Geography
Nolanville is located at 31°05'45" North, 97°41'45" West (31.095833, -97.695833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all of it land.
Economy
Nolanville is home to several businesses, including a Walmart Supercenter, a Lowe's Home Improvement store, and a variety of restaurants. The city is also home to the Fort Hood Army Base, which is the largest active duty military installation in the United States.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 3,845 people, 1,093 households, and 890 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,741.2 people per square mile (671.7/km2). There were 1,179 housing units at an average density of 535.2 per square mile (206.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 68.45% White, 17.90% African American, 0.71% Native American, 1.45% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 9.45% from other races, and 2.50% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 18.90% of the population.
There were 1,093 households, out of which 44.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.2% were married couples living together, 11.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.7% were non-families. 17.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 5.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.50 and the average family size was 3.93.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 34.2% under the age of 18, 10.2% from 18 to 24, 32.2% from 25 to 44, 17.2% from 45 to 64, and 6.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 28 years. For every 100 females, there were 103.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $37,917, and the median income for a family was $41,250. Males had a median income of $30,000 versus $21,250 for females. The per capita income for the city was $13,845. About 8.7% of families and 10.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 13.2% of those under age 18 and 8.3% of those age 65 or over.
