Nassau Bay Summary
Nassau Bay is a city located in Harris County, Texas, United States. It is part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. The city is located on the western shore of Clear Lake, a large body of water in the Houston–Galveston area. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 3,346.
History
Nassau Bay was founded in 1962 by developer J.D. McDermott. The city was named after Nassau Bay, a bay located on the western shore of Clear Lake. The city was incorporated in 1966.
Geography
Nassau Bay is located at 29°37'25" North, 95°3'25" West (29.623750, -95.056944). It is bordered by Clear Lake to the east, Seabrook to the south, and Webster to the west. The city has a total area of 2.2 square miles, all of which is land.
Economy
Nassau Bay is home to several businesses, including the Johnson Space Center, the Clear Lake Regional Medical Center, and the Nassau Bay Shopping Center. The city is also home to several marinas, including the Nassau Bay Marina and the Clear Lake Marina.
Demographics
As of the 2010 census, there were 3,346 people, 1,521 households, and 890 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,521.2 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the city was 79.2% White, 8.2% African American, 0.3% Native American, 5.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 4.2% from other races, and 2.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.3% of the population.
There were 1,521 households, out of which 22.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.2% were married couples living together, 9.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.3% were non-families. 32.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.19 and the average family size was 2.76.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 18.2% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 33.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $60,938, and the median income for a family was $71,917. Males had a median income of $50,000 versus $37,500 for females. The per capita income for the city was $32,917. About 4.2% of families and 5.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.2% of those under age 18 and 4.2% of those age 65 or over.
