Morgan’s Point is a small city located in Harris County, Texas, United States. It is situated on the north shore of Galveston Bay, approximately 25 miles southeast of downtown Houston. The city is part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, the population of Morgan’s Point was 1,711.

History

The area that is now Morgan’s Point was originally inhabited by the Karankawa Indians. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the early 1800s. The settlement was originally known as Morgan’s Point, named after the Morgan family who owned the land. The settlement was officially incorporated in 1953.

Geography

Morgan’s Point is located at 29°37′N 95°2′W (29.619, -95.033). It is situated on the north shore of Galveston Bay, approximately 25 miles southeast of downtown Houston. The city has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land.

Economy

The economy of Morgan’s Point is largely based on the oil and gas industry. The city is home to several oil and gas companies, including Chevron, Shell, and ExxonMobil. The city also has a number of small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and service providers.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, the population of Morgan’s Point was 1,711. The racial makeup of the city was 79.2% White, 11.2% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 6.2% from other races, and 2.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 16.2% of the population.
