Morgan s Point Resort Summary

Morgan's Point Resort is a small city located in Bell County, Texas, United States. It is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Belton, about 10 miles (16 km) southwest of Temple. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

Morgan's Point Resort was founded in 1881 by William Morgan, a former Confederate soldier. He purchased the land from the state of Texas and named it after himself. The town was originally a small fishing village, but it soon grew into a popular resort destination. In the early 1900s, the town was home to several hotels, a casino, and a racetrack.
In the 1920s, the town was incorporated and the name was changed to Morgan's Point Resort. The town continued to grow and by the 1950s, it had become a popular destination for tourists. The town was home to several resorts, including the Morgan's Point Resort Hotel, which was built in the 1930s.
In the 1960s, the town began to decline as the popularity of the resort began to wane. In the 1970s, the town was annexed by the city of Temple. In the 1980s, the town was revitalized and the population began to grow again.

Geography

Morgan's Point Resort is located at 31°07'45" North, 97°25'45" West (31.129, -97.429). It is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Belton, about 10 miles (16 km) southwest of Temple. The city has a total area of 1.3 square miles (3.4 km2), all of which is land.

The economy of Morgan's Point Resort is largely based on tourism. The town is home to several resorts, including the Morgan's Point Resort Hotel, which was built in the 1930s. The town also has several restaurants, bars, and shops.

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,420.8 people per square mile (548.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 81.2% White, 11.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 5.2% from other races, and 1.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.7% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples living together, 14.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.2% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 3.04.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $35,000, and the median income for a family was $41,250. Males had a median income of $30,000 versus $21,250 for females. The per capita income for the city was $17,845. About 10.2% of families and 13.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.2% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.
