Maud Summary

Maud, Texas is a small town located in Bowie County, Texas, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Sulphur River, approximately 10 miles east of the city of Texarkana. The population of Maud was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

History

Maud was founded in 1885 by the Texas and Pacific Railway. The town was named after Maud Smith, the daughter of a railroad official. The town was incorporated in 1887 and quickly became a thriving agricultural center. The town was home to several cotton gins, a sawmill, and a gristmill.
In the early 1900s, Maud was a popular stop on the Texas and Pacific Railway. The town was home to several hotels, restaurants, and saloons. The town also had a movie theater, a bank, and a post office.

Geography

Maud is located at 33°25'25" North, 94°20'45" West (33.423, -94.346). The town is situated on the banks of the Sulphur River, approximately 10 miles east of the city of Texarkana.
The town has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land. The terrain is mostly flat, with some rolling hills.

Economy
