Martindale, Texas is a small town located in Caldwell County, Texas, United States. It is situated on the San Marcos River, about 25 miles southeast of Austin. The population was 1,092 at the 2010 census.
History
Martindale was founded in 1854 by a group of German immigrants led by John Martindale. The town was originally called Martindale Station, and was a stop on the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway. The town was officially incorporated in 1891.
In the early 1900s, Martindale was a thriving agricultural community, with cotton, corn, and wheat being the main crops. The town also had a number of businesses, including a cotton gin, a blacksmith shop, a general store, and a hotel.
In the 1920s, the town began to decline as the railroad stopped running and the population began to move away. The town was nearly abandoned by the 1940s, but was revived in the 1950s when the San Marcos River was dammed to create Lake Dunlap.

The economy of Martindale is largely based on agriculture and tourism. The town is home to several farms, which produce cotton, corn, wheat, and other crops. The town is also a popular destination for fishing, boating, and other outdoor activities.

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,092 people, 431 households, and 287 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,213.3 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the town was 81.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 15.7% from other races, and 2.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 33.2% of the population.
There were 431 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.3% were married couples living together, 13.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.14.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 28.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
