History
Lott was founded in 1881 by a group of German immigrants led by John Lott. The town was named after him and was originally called Lott’s Settlement. The town was incorporated in 1884 and the first post office was established in 1885.
In the early 1900s, Lott was a thriving agricultural community. Cotton was the main crop and the town had several cotton gins and a cottonseed oil mill. The town also had a bank, a hotel, a blacksmith shop, a livery stable, and several stores.
In the 1920s, the town began to decline as the cotton industry declined. The Great Depression further hurt the town and many of the businesses closed.
In the 1940s, the town began to revive as the oil industry began to boom in the area. The town had several oil wells and a refinery. The town also had a cotton gin and a cottonseed oil mill.

Lott is located at 31°25'25" North, 97°2'25" West (31.423, -97.040). It is situated about 10 miles south of Waco and is part of the Waco Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The racial makeup of the town was 79.2% White, 16.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 2.2% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.7% of the population.
There were 393 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 12.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.3% were non-families. 24.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.30.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 28.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $31,250, and the median income for a family was $36,250. Males had a median income of $30,000 versus $20,000 for females.
